"Carmen of the Winter"
Maria Thoidou & "Flying of the Voice"
The vocal expression workshop "The flying (petagma) of the voice" starts its presentation with a composition of Maria Thoidou inspired by the famous Habanera from Georges Bizet's Carmen and continues with some beloved songs coming from different eras. Five exceptional women figures let their voice fly along with the flow of every composition: Leonard Cohen, Nickola Piovanni, Edith Piaf, Nino Rota, Kurt Weil, Doors, Nick Cave, John Dowland, Henry Purcell and, also, some vocal "interventions" - exercises of the inspirator, Maria Thoidou. The presentation has named after Maria Thoidou's composition, which was created in the previous winter and is characterised by Carmen's erotic personality and an ineffable nostalgia for her experiences... Through bold orchestrations, with closed mouths (bouche fermée = closed mouth), the ensemble introduces big screen’s music pieces to the audience. With music being their main component, «Bouche Fermée» penetrate into the mood of each film, excerpts of which are shared with the audience. The orchestrations are an original work of Maria Gouvali, whose compositions are also included in the repertoire of Bouche Fermée. Maria Thoidou and Bouche Fermée in a sensual coexistence.. |
