August 28 / Monday
(part 1)
Asian chamber musicOne of the most charismatic new generation violinists in Europe, Michalis Kouloumis, shares the stage with Thymios Atzakas (oud player). These two musicians work on a repertoire anthology for violin and oud and present chamber music created through the last two centuries by the cosmic music of Istanbul, Balkan and Aegean melodies and a dose of Arabic music and artists’ compositions. The duet will try to present a flowing music narration of “nakam” language and revitalize the historical form of 17th century “fasil-I sazende” in which “taksim” (a local composition) interacts continually with verse compositions and opens a wide range of musical creation for these two artists. Thymios Atzakas / oud Michalis Kouloumis / violin |
